Biological Race- What is race?
Definition of race is biologically
constructed in my opinion because race refers to a person's physical appearance,
like skin color, eye color, hair color, bone/jaw structure etc. Ethnicity
relates to cultural factors such as nationality, culture, language, ancestry
and beliefs. A race is a human population seems to be distinct in some way from
other groups, which may be base on real or imaginary differences. The racial classifications
are base on the biological classification such as morphological like skin color
or facial characteristic. The conceptions of race are often controversial due
to its effect on social identity and hierarchies. Ethnicity, related to race
not only refers to physical characteristic but also the social traits shared by
human population.
The social traits
include nationality, tribe, and religious faith, shared language, shared culture
and shared traditions. Therefore we can say that racial discrimination is
biologically constructed and while ethnicity is socially constructed. Race
classification can be understood as classification of large family based on
biology and genetic code. This theory can be verified by the fact that certain
disease effect different race differently such as obesity, diabetes, coronary
heart disease, lung cancer and skin cancer. The bad use of racial
classification in modern time is termed as racism, which encourage the
discrimination on basis of race, color and creed. The impact of social culture
also have impacted on racial classification because in modern time this effects
the human culture in more manner then older time.
