People used to worship Lord Ganesha (Vigneshwar)in the
celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesha
is the most followed god in Hinduism, and admired by every member of the
family. People used to worship Sri
Ganesha before starting any important work. In todays time this festival gain
much importance in Maharashtra and surrounding state This is the most important
festival of Hinduism. People worship God of knowledge and prosperity on Ganesh
Chaturthi with full devotion and faith.
People generally start the day with a bath in the morning on
the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, after that they wear clean clothes and worship
God. Worship procedures include chanting of Mantra, Aarti song, and devotion
songs, and follow other rituals of Hindu religion along with offering many
things and praying to God. Earlier, this festival was observed at the local
level only, but later on its spread, its presence at national level. After the
festival over the statue of Lord Ganesha is immersed in the river.. It was
started in 1893 as a festival by Lokmanya Tilak (a social reformer, Indian nationalist
and freedom fighter). At that time, he made a tradition of worshiping Ganesha
to protect the Indians against British rule.

Ganesh Chaturthi (Ganesh Chaturthi 2018) will be celebrated
on September 13. Ganeshotsav (Ganesh Utsav 2018) is celebrated every year with
much passion and enthusiasm. Apart from the houses in the country, large
statues of Ganesha are installed in many places and most famous is the King of
Lal Bagh (Lalbaugcha Raja - the king of Lalbagh).Since 1934 a large statue of
King of Lal Bagh was established in Mumbai in Lal Bagh area. This year also the King of
Lal Bagh was established with great enthusiasm and decorated very beautifully with
a golden crown, sitting with pride. The Ambani family and many Bollywood personalities
have also laid the line for the King's visit to the Lal Bagh.
People believe that Ganesha comes with great joy and
prosperity every year and goes away after removing all the pain. In order to
please Ganesh, devotees make various preparations in this festival. It is
celebrated as Ganesha's birth anniversary, so that it can be welcomed and
respected. This festival starts on the Chaturthi in the evening of Bhadrapad
(August or September) in the Shukla Paksha and ends on the 11th day on Anant
Chaturdashi. It is very important to worship Ganesha in Hinduism. It is
believed that those who worship him with full devotion and faith will be
blessed with happiness, knowledge, wealth and long life.
Nowadays Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as a national
festival to remove inequality between Brahmins and non-Brahmins. Lord Ganesha
is known by various names, some of which are Ekadanta, God of limitless powers,
Heramba (obstacles remover), Lambodara, Vinayaka, God of Gods, God of wisdom,
God of wealth and prosperity and many more. People see off the Ganesha on 11th
day (Anant chaturdashi) with complete Hindu ritual of Ganesha Visarjan.They
pray again to God to come back with a lot of blessings again next year.
